Overview of Services, Programs and Curriculum
This informational summary is presented in alphabetic order and covers a variety of logistical details about the SHF school community. Please review our Philosophy and Mission and History for more general information.
Accreditation by the Missouri Non-Public School Accrediting Association.
After School Care is provided from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm by Champions, part of Medallion School Partnerships. Call 314-842-1045.
Board. The School Board advises the pastor in making policies and is comprised of nine members elected by the community.
Campus. A map of the campus is available for printing or downloading here.
Books are provided and each child pays an annual fee for usage ($125 in 2004). A supply list notes additional needs by classroom.
Communication between the school and families is valued. A Friday Folder is sent home weekly with relevant information. See news postings and calendar and events. Email the school office for general questions and/or contact specific departments.
Curriculum Guides are available in the Principal’s Office and they will be revised for the 2004-05 school year.
Enrollment has ranged between 450 and 500 students over the past few years. Class size is limited to 30 per class in grades 1 through 8. There are two classrooms per grade.
Extracurricular Activities include Athletics, Band, Choir, Dance, Foreign Language, Speech, etc., most of which are offered after school hours and some carry an additional fee.
Gifted / Honors Program. An honors math class is offered in 7th and 8th grades.
Health Room is staffed by a full-time nurse.
Home School Association is an active organization of parents. It sponsors various programs and fundraisers.
Hours. The school day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm. A faculty meeting is held on the second Friday of each month and school is dismissed early. See calendar.
Kindergarten classes are offered both half-day and full-day. Instructors include a certified teacher and teacher’s aid. Class size is limited to 25 students.
Junior Achievement classes are taught by parent volunteers.
Learning Center sponsored by the Archdiocese Department of Special Education is housed in two classrooms to provide specialized instruction to children with learning disabilities.
Library with 3,000 volumes and six computers is available to the students.
Life After SHF. An average of 90% of our students choose Catholic High Schools.
Lunches are served daily, a hot plate meal and/or a la carte items are for sale as detailed on the monthly menu.
Music classes are offered twice per week by a teacher with a BA in Music Education. She also coordinates fall and spring concerts and religious holiday programs.
Picnic. The Parish Picnic is held annually in May and includes a parade of the school children.
Physical Education is taught twice weekly by a full-time certified instructor.

Religious Instruction is overseen by the Religious Coordinator who also assists with sacrament preparation, community service projects and Parish School of Religion. Students attend Mass at least once per week.
Resource Teacher is certified in special education. She consults with the classroom teachers, manages IEPs, and handles testing accommodations.
Security is enforced by locked entrances and the requirement that all visitors sign-in with the office and wear a visitor badge.
Student Council advances the growth of Christian leadership and demonstrates the practical application of democracy.
Technology instruction is offered in two separate networked computer rooms. Each classroom includes at least one personal computer.
Testing. Students (grades 2 – 8) take the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). All grades (except Second) scored at least 5 percentile points above the Archdiocesan norm in 2003. Grades 4-5-6 also take the Cognitive Abilities Test (COGNAT).
Together We're Better (TWB) is a major fund-raiser that involves the purchase of gift certificates for local grocery stores and other merchants.
Tuition is charged based upon the number of children in a family, call 631-8149 for current rates.

Volunteers are integral to our community. Parents assist with art and computer classes; cafeteria and playground supervision; office administration; technology; and Room Mothers coordinate various parties, field trips, and special programs. |
