Winter Dress

Parents � just a friendly reminder that all the students go outside for recess and lunch recess as much as possible to enjoy the fresh air. There are still a number of students who arrive at school on extremely cold weather days wearing shorts, hoodies, light jackets, etc. Please make sure that your child(ren) are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Super Raffle Season is in full swing. You can pick up your super raffle ticket in the back of church, in the concession stand, or by contacting Steve Schmid at steve@ufpstlouis.com or me at timpatmac@sbcglobal.net. Remember, a maximum of 350 tickets are sold and the grand prize is $10,000, and the proceeds enable us to keep the registration fees for our sports programs at a manageable level, as well as help us keep up our facilities. Every ticket matters, and also enables you to attend our Super Bowl party at the Parish Hall on Super Bowl Sunday!

Background checks

PARENTS - During the calendar year of 2012, all background checks will be renewed. If your address has changed since your original background check YOU must contact the FCSR (Family Care Safety Registry, MO Dept. of Health & Senior Services), operator and change your address. We cannot do this change. If you have moved and do not change your address with the FCSR your new background check will go to the wrong address. This office plans on beginning this process within the next few weeks, so please take care of this ASAP. The number to reach the FCSR operator is (866) 422- 6872. Thank you to everyone that volunteered their time or purchased a book at the book fair. The fair was a great success this year. As noted at the beginning of the book fair, Brother Joel agreed to swallow a goldfish if our sales goal was met. I�m happy to say that we exceeded our goal. Therefore, on Wednesday, December 14th after mass we will witness this epic event.

Volleyball Playoff Update

TWB cards

A TWB seller is in the front hall of school from 7:45-8:00am on school days. Orders may still be sent with your child. They will be filled daily and can still be returned to you through your child. Parents, The Seven Holy Founders Athletic Association is here to supervise and develop athletic activities for grade school and teenage parish members and non-members. Our goal is to give proper guidance, leadership, and consistent regulations to all boys, girls, and adult athletic activities of the parish and to promote good sportsmanship. In addition, we strive to promote the social element of the organization to enhance an air of fellowship among members, and to sponsor social activities for the parish community. We recently released a sports policy handbook that you may find helpful in answering some of your detailed questions. It can be accessed on our website at www.shfaa.net. SHFAA holds general meetings the third Thursday of every month during the school year, with the exception of December (we hold a Christmas Party) and May (parish picnic setup replaces our May meeting). Any adult member of the parish is invited and encouraged to attend any and all meetings. The agenda typically consists of introducing new attendees, reports from each of the executive officers, reviewing ongoing activities of the association and the sports currently in season, a financial review of the association, discuss any new business that any attendee wants to bring forward, and vote on any measures that require a general membership vote. We then hold a 50/50 drawing and adjourn to enjoy food, beverages and socialization�even a card game has been known to break out! At the October meeting, we ask for nominations for any and all SHFAA positions in advance of the annual elections that take place at the November meeting. Positions are up for election on an annual basis. The October and November meetings are a great chance to get to know some of the members and see how you may want to get involved, either in a formally elected position or by volunteering to support the various events that we sponsor. I�d be happy to answer any questions you may have about SHFAA and encourage you to attend our next general meeting to be held at 8pm on Thursday, October 20 in the Parish Hall. Randy Welsch '08 participated for 8 days in the Vianney H.S. Jamaica Mission Immersion Trip this past summer. Several of the tasks at hand included pouring concrete that was mixed by hand, digging foundations and repairing houses and fences, all in 100 degree-plus temperatures, limited electricity and limited running water. John Specker '09 and several of his classmates at St. Mary's HS have written poems and have published a book called "More Than A Message" authored by the Southside Dragons. The Foreword by Archbishop Robert Carlson. This book can be purchased at Catholic Supply. All profits go the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Way to go guys!!!

Poker Run Host Homes

We are in need of host homes for the upcoming Poker Run, which officially kicks off the activities for the SHF Auction 2012. The Poker Run will take place on Saturday, October 29th and we are looking for families to host three separate groups (max 20 per group) for short mini parties of approximately 45 minutes each. Hosts supply beverages and appetizers for each of the three groups that will rotate to your home. You may wish to co-host with others to share the cost of the evening. We ask that you limit the number of host at one home to 3 or 4 families. All host participants receive a poker hand of their own when they return to the hall for prizes and mini-auction. Educational research indicates that students who participate in a Band program show improved scores in standardized testing such as SAT and areas of Math and Reading Skills. Seven Holy Founders has had a tradition of Band for many years. Mr. Joe Bozzi will be meeting with parents who would like their child/children to be in the Beginning Band program (No experience needed) on September 21 at 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Band is offered to students in the 4th through 8th grades.

We have a �Squares Game� being run by Mike Polizzi and Kevin Kelso. This game will pay out based on the halftime and final end of game scores of the Tournament Final on Monday, April 4. The squares are $10 apiece, and you can either pick your square at this Friday�s Fish Fry (Mike and Kevin will be by the entrance) or you can contact Mike or Kevin and get the money to them. The board and numbers will be posted on the SHFAA website at Noon on Monday. Payout will be $200 at halftime and $300 for end of game score. In order not to disturb the Bingo crowd, Soccer/Volleyball signups on April 7 will be done in the parish center. All other Soccer/Volleyball signup nights will be in the gym.

Tiger Field Cleanup Part 2

To those of you that came to Tiger to help out on Sunday, many thanks for all of your hard work. A lot of progress was made, but we still have much to do to be ready for the Richmeyer Tournament which begins in 2 weeks. Therefore, we're going to have another Tiger Field Preparation Day on Sunday, March 20, beginning at 9am until we finish. We have a lot of work to do to make final preparations for our boys and girls to be able to play on their home field. Our informal poll tells us that the 5th and 6th grade boys teams had the most parents show up today to work. I'm challenging all the other coaches/classes to take the crown from them this weekend. We'd like to see some new faces down at the field helping out. Refreshements and Lunch will be provided, so bring your shovels and rakes and a pair of work gloves and help us keep Tiger Field something the Parish can be proud of. St. John Vianney High School senior Ryan Hale recently received notice of his appointment to West Point, the United States Military Academy. This is a significant honor. Those selected for admission are chosen on the basis of their excellence in academics and leadership, and their physical aptitude. Ryan will receive a four-year college education valued at more than $225,000 and agrees to serve his country as an Army officer for at least eight years. Ryan is the son of Anita and Thomas Hale.

Tiger Field Cleanup Day

We have received many compliments on the condition of Tiger Field during the past few seasons. There is a lot of effort that goes into maintaining the field throughout the year, but it kicks off each baseball/softball season with a cleanup day. Typically there are a few regulars who help us get the field ready, but this year I'm challenging all parents who have a child in the athletic program to participate in the one day activity to get the field ready for the opening of the season. This year Tiger Field is playing host to the CYC Richmeyer Tournament, so we want to make the field and grounds look even better than normal. Many hands make light work, so bring down your rakes, shovels, work gloves, chainsaws (ok, I threw that it for you power geeks), etc...We're starting at 9am and will work until we're done, typically sometime mid afternoon. Even if you can't spend the whole day, if we can get one parent per family to spend a couple hours on Sunday with us, the work should go fairly quickly. I'm sure there will be beverages and snacks to keep your strength up! Thanks in advance, and see you on Sunday.

Seven Holy Founders has been selected to host the 2011 CYC South County Pre-Season Richmeyer Baseball Tournament for 5th and 6th grades. This is the biggest baseball tournament in South County and it�s a great opportunity for our association to show off Tiger Field. The tournament will start March 26 and run through April 17th. More information on how you can support the tournament will be coming soon.

Thank you to the volunteers, teachers and families for making our December book fair a success. Prior to the book fair Brother Joel was asked if he would be willing to participate in an incentive to help the book fair reach it�s sales goal. He agreed that he would dress like a Superhero if the fair met their goal in sales. The sales at the fair were good, but came in at just under $200 of our goal. Since we were so close, Brother Joel decided that he would go ahead and dress up for a day. So mark your calendars for Friday, February 4th, SHF will have a special super visitor!

We have been advised by the St. Louis County Health Department that there is a community- wide Pertussis (Whooping Cough) outbreak. Please read the Fact Sheet that was sent home in the Friday Folder. Please check and see what your child is wearing to school on these cold weather days. There are still a number of students wearing short and hoodies (with no coats or gloves) on these bitter cold days. Remember �An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure�.

Some knowledge of church doctrine is probably helpful, but because the emphasis is more on do's and don'ts than dogma, familiarity with the Baltimore catechism isn't necessary to get most of the jokes. The piece, of course, makes reference to the new pope ("They called him `the Rottweiler,' but I think we should call him `our German shepherd'") as well as stars-gone-bad Russell Crowe and Michael Jackson (who is held up as an example of sloth for getting to court late and wearing his pajamas). The show, like its predecessor, is also heavy on audience interaction, though even those scolded usually come away with a prayer card...

Thanks to all that chipped in a couple of weekends ago selling Super Raffle tickets. We sold a few and handed out a ton. A lot of times at mass this is the only thing you have to do. Get tickets into people�s hands, so they don�t forget to buy. There is no 430pm mass on Saturday, New Year�s Day, so we�re looking for Sunday volunteers for 7a Mass 9a Mass 11a Mass We need four workers at each mass, and it�s easy. Thanks!

Lunch Program Announcement

December 17, 2010 I wanted to update everyone on the Seven Holy Founders School Lunch Program. A Lunch Committee* was formed last month to find a replacement for our existing lunch provider, Food Service Consultants, Inc., who is discontinuing services effective December 21, 2010. After reviewing lunch programs from several different companies/individuals and soliciting feedback from many parents and students, the Lunch Committee selected Gregory�s Creative Cuisine as the new SHF lunch provider. Gregory�s catering goal is to provide children with a hot nutritious luncheon that they will enjoy and eat. Hopefully we will start seeing no more lunches in the trash and no more just eating the desserts or snack foods. Gregory�s menu is peanut-free and consists of a daily hot lunch with a salad bar, a daily boxed salad, both a hot and cold ala carte menu and an alternating Friday menu of Papa John�s Pizza Day/ Boxed Salad or a Deluxe Salad Bar with a selection of 50 items. Gregory�s will continue the subsidized milk program that we currently have in place and will include milk, both white or chocolate, with the purchase of a hot meal & salad bar or the daily boxed salad for $3.25. There are 2 different ways you can select and pay for the lunches:

Purchase of a 10- meal punch card via cash, check or charge for $32.50. The punch card can be used for the daily purchase of either a hot plate & salad bar lunch or a daily boxed salad which both include milk.
Purchase of a daily hot lunch & salad bar or daily boxed salad with milk via cash for $3.25.

There will also be both a hot and cold ala carte menu offering a variety of nutritious menu items. As something new, the ala carte menu items will be available for purchase by all grades. The monthly lunch menus will be posted on-line by the 10th of the month for the upcoming month. Please note that the Papa John�s Pizza order forms and payment must be submitted in advance so that Gregory�s can place an accurate order. The Papa John�s on-line form notes the due date every month. For example, the Papa John Pizza dates for January are January 7th and 21st and the due date for the form and payment is January 4th. Lastly, the Lunch Committee expressed the need for additional microwaves. I am retiring the existing microwave and replacing it with three new ones when we return from Christmas break. I hope these changes will satisfy everyone�s needs. Please review the attached monthly on-line menu instructions for accessing the menus and order forms. Our 5th through 8th Graders were fortunate to have Bishop Ed Rice, our new Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese, preside at their weekly Mass on Wednesday, Dec. 15th. Bishop Rice then met the students in the Parish Hall and talked to them about various types of vocations. The students asked some great questions to the Bishop.

Most of you are aware that each winter the Seven Holy Founders Athletic Association runs a very critical fundraiser--The Super Raffle. The money raised from this raffle covers our deficits and enables our association to keep playing costs for our families to a minimum. You have a 1 in 350 chance to win $10,000 (we hand out a total of $14,000 in prize money!), and you gain admittance to our Super Bowl Party on February 6th in the school hall that provides food and drink for the afternoon and evening. The cost of a ticket is $100. Feel free to split the ticket with as many people as you like. We will be at all the masses through Super Sunday except for Christmas. Soccer News

Our 7th grade boy�s soccer team coached by Chris Ott has reached the semi-finals of the City/County Archdiocesan Championship by defeating St. Sabina 3-0. They play St. Clair of Assisi at 2pm tomorrow (Saturday) on St. Sabina�s field. We're sure you join us in wishing the boys good luck, and if you can make it to the game to support the team all the better. Go Founders!

Scholastic Book Fair

Come join the fun at this year�s Scholastic Book Fair. This year�s theme is Heroes. The fair will be open Saturday 12/4 from 4-6, Sunday 12/5 from 8-2, Monday 12/6 from 8-6 and Tuesday 12/7 from 8-3:30. There will be books for all ages and interests. The Home & School Association, school library and each classroom benefit from the proceeds of the book fair. The fair is held in the Parish Hall. This year we have an exciting incentive to reach our sales goal of $3,700.00. If we reach our goal Brother Joel has agreed to dress up like a super hero. Will it be Batman, Superman or another hero? We'll have to reach our goal to find out.

Magazine Drive SOS

SOS! Parents, we need your help. We have extended the magazine drive till next Wednesday. So far, we are only halfway to our goal with only one out of five students participating. If every family who has not yet participated would turn in just two orders, we would reach our goal. The money from this drive will finance our computer maintenance and upgrades, as well as the purchase of a few new computers. Please support us so we can continue our computer program. Congratulations to St. Mary�s High School seniors Justin Giegling and Ryan Lilly, Seven Holy Founders graduates, are 2010-2011 members of Beta Chi Pi. This science honor society was started and supported by a group of science teachers who belonged to STOM Science Teachers of Missouri. They wanted to have an honor organization for high school students who excelled in science and who participated in science related activities at their high school.

We have been notified that Food Service Consultants (FSC) will no longer be providing food service to SHF School starting January 3, 2011. We will still be selling milk. We have several options to us at this time � 1) every student bring his/her own lunch and buys milk or 2) get a small committee together to investigate other options. If you are interested in serving on this committee, several parents are already doing some legwork, please let Bro. NOMINATIONS TOMORROW NIGHT 8PM IN THE SCHOOL HALL The one meeting you should attend every year as a member of the SHFAA (next to the Christmas Party, of course) is tomorrow night�s nomination meeting. It is when you have the biggest �say� in what goes on in the sports life of your child at SHF. There has never been a time in this organization where strong participation is so important. Things are going in a very good direction, but there�s no room for apathy. If you don�t think you have the time remember MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK! Our collaborative, Christian spirit is the most powerful tool we have. Let�s use it. Hope to see you there tomorrow night. Fall Pizza Sales a Huge Success!

Hello everyone, We sold just shy of $9000 worth of pizza during this last sale! This number doubled the amount of sales from the Spring and was about $2k over last year�s fall sale. The winning girl�s team was Tim Becker�s 7th grade team, and the winning boy�s team was Ed Bertram�s Pre-K team. Tim�s team average was $167/player and Ed�s team average was $80. We also had great numbers from 5th grade boys and girls. We need to plan the pizza pickup on October 30th at 10 am outside the Parish Hall. We need at least 10 volunteers to help me unload boxes and help with the pickup. Please let Mike Klenc know if you can be there. Thank you for all of your efforts.
