Just a reminder that students are not allowed in the school building before 7:30 AM. Classrooms do not open up until 7:45 AM. This is for the safety of your children. Please do not drop off students before 7:30 AM as there is no one available to watch them.

Volunteer Opportunities

The SHF Newsletter will be coming home each week in the Friday Folder with the oldest child attending SHF school. We hope that this newsletter will keep you informed about what is taking place for the upcoming week/weeks. This newsletter will always be in the color BLUE. This way when you get all your information coming home on Friday, you know to look for the color blue for this newsletter. Thanks to everyone for a great start to the new school year. Everything ran smoothly with students being on time, finding their classrooms without problems and being with their friends again. Once again, thank you, teachers, staff, parents and students!!! PSR News

Summer has flown by, and it's nearly time for another year of Parish School of religion. FINAL registration for the 2008-2009 school year will be Sunday, August 31st, from 9am to noon in the front hall of school. Classes will begin with a session for parents and students on Monday, September 8th from 6:30pm to 8pm in the Parish Hall. We provide religious instruction for children of the community, grades K-8 who attend public schools. Classes are held on Monday evenings (6:30pm-8pm). An important note: students wishing to receive First Holy Communion in 2nd grade must attend first grade PSR or full-time Catholic School. Likewise, students seeking Confirmation in 7th grade must attend 6th grade PSR or full-time Catholic School. Questions? Call Patti Doering @633-0123.

3rd Grade Volleyball

The Parish Hall restroom renovation, due to the proceeds from the 2008 Auction, has begun. The goal is to complete prior to the beginning of school on August 27th. However, as we all know, there are usually some unforeseen repairs or events which often make our human goals unattainable. Organizations and individuals using the Parish Hall are asked to use the school, lower level restrooms during the renovation. Very special thanks to everyone for their support and cooperation. This renovation will serve the entire parish community!!!

New Principal Announced

Deacon Brother Joel Lechner, OSM, will join the staff of Seven Holy Founders as the Principal of our school. He will arrive in mid-July. Brother Joel was assigned here 20 years ago. Let us welcome him back and give him our support as he returns in a new role at Seven Holy Founders.

We are usually finished by 1:00 PM and then enjoy a delicious lunch. Help is needed from every family to make this parish picnic a success!

First Communion

Last Saturday was wonderful! Thanks to the students for all their hard work and effort. Special thanks to the parents, teachers, deacon, and the Servite priests for guiding these young individuals in our faith. May this Communion be one of many as they grow in the Catholic faith. Missouri Mathematics League

The students in grades 6-8 recently took the Missouri Mathematics League math contest. Our students scored very well on this test. Our 8th grade placed 15th out of 64 schools participating. Our top five 8th graders were: Laura Cole, Grant Boone, Luke Naegeli, Quinn Cochran, and Sean Murphy. Our 7th grade placed 28th out of 60 schools participating. Our top five 7th graders were: Connor Bennett, Shannon Withington, Michael Braun, Michelle Deves, and Lydia Bauer. Our 6th grade placed 31st out of 71 schools participating. Our top five 6th graders were: T.J. Valenza, Austin Strifler, Dan Johnson, Sam Sykora, and Libby Graef.

St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Don't forget our Service Project!!! Remember SHF will be collecting rnuch-needed items for St. Louis Crisis Nursery during the month of April. The nursery provides emergency care and housing for children from birth through age 11. These children could really use some new things. Current needs include: socks, underwear, pajamas, summer clothes, swimsuits and arts and crafts supplies. Please send any donations to the school office. GREEN THUMB BOOTH: We need plants, plant cuttings, flower pots, potting soil, containers, etc. When you�re buying your spring flowers, pick up a few extra to donate to the picnic. GROCERY BOOTH: Donate any non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, soda, beer, wine, box dinners, cleaning supplies, paper products, etc. CRAFTS AND �ANY THINGS� BOOTH: Any craft items you have or wish to make, any household treasures that you wish to share by donating them to the picnic would be appreciated. School Board Elections

The Seven Holy Founders School Board is now accepting nominations for 3 new Board members. Any parishioner over the age of 18 is eligible to be on School Board and having children in school is not a requirement. This is a 3 year committment. Nominations are due on April 30. Duke University Talent Search

Several weeks ago, 13 of our 7th grade students took the ACT test along with juniors and seniors in high school. For a 7th grader to be eligible to take the test, they had to score on the 95%ile or above on one of the major categories on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Twenty of our 7th graders were invited to take the test. We congratulate all of the students who took the test. St. John Vianney in Kirkwood will be hosting the Catholic Elementary School Art Exhibit. Seven Holy Founders will be represented by six artists from the 7th and 8th grades. First Annual Youth Ministry Rummage Sale

The Youth Ministry is organizing it's 1st Annual Rummage Sale on Saturday, April 26, in the Parish Hall. We are sending 45 teens this year to Steubenville Youth Conference in Springfield, MO. Youth from all over the Midwest come to gather in prayer, talks, wonderful music and adoration. Proceeds from the sale will help defray the cost of the bus, since gas prices are so high. What to donate: New or used household items that are CLEAN, have no missing parts, and are in working order. New or gently worn CLEAN clothing. We cannot accept computers, TV's, hazardous chemicals, or large appliances. Please put donations in boxes or bags and bring them to the Parish Hall on Thursday evening, April 24 or Friday, April 25, from 7 AM - 8 PM. There will be an Archdiocesan Student Art Exhibit at Plaza Frontenac from January 27 - February 2. There will be 14 works of art featured from Seven Holy Founders in this exhibit. The artwork consists of pencil, oil pastel, tempera and collage. The works featured are from our 7th and 8th graders. Attached to the newsletter are the results of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills which our students took in late September. Listed are our scores compared to those of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The students at SHF continue to score well on these standardized tests. We congratulate the students, parents and our teachers for a job well done. The auction needs your help. Donations are low at this point and we would love to make this the best auction ever. We need items in all price ranges, particularly $50-$250 in value. Value means the regular retail price- not necessarily the price you paid. Now is a great time to take advantage of the after holiday sales and get a bargain. Confirmation Date Change

There will be a Papal visit to the United States in April. Because of the Pope�s visit, the U.S. Bishops will be meeting with Pope Benedict on the original date for Confirmation. Art Contest Winners

St. Anthony�s recently hosted an art contest with the theme of �Safety�. Our art teacher, Mrs. Meg Nash, enlisted her fifth grade students to participate. She was only allowed to choose 25 entries out of the 50 that were created. On December 4, she was notified that five SHF students won the contest! Our lucky winners are: Barbie Long, Rebecca Green, Diana Boone, Anna Torpea, and Elizabeth Helm. Each will receive an award and a $50.00 savings bond. To top off this excitement, their artwork will be on display in the new pediatric wing of St. Anthony�s beginning Saturday, December 8, when they host the grand opening. Congratulations to Mrs. Nash and her students!

We thank the parishioners who are participating in the Bridge the Gap Program. About 30% of our 224 school families are able and willing to contribute some amount to help cover the full cost of their child(ren)�s education by making tax deductible donations to BTG. Fiscal year-to-date we have collected about $40,000.00, half from school parents and half from generous parishioners. Contributions will help minimize future tuition increases and are greatly appreciated by the school community. Thank you!!!

Magazine Drive

Our annual magazine drive is going on now. The remaining turn-in day will be Tuesday, December 4. Each child is asked to sell three subscriptions. This is the only fundraiser for technology. Parenting Education

Catholic Family Services will offer the nationally recognized Love and Logic program at SHF. It is an excellent series that teaches practical solutions to common parenting challenges for children of all ages. Scholastic Book Fair Blizzard

A "BLIZZARD" is coming to SHF. The Scholastic Book Fair begins on Sunday, December 9 in the Parish Hall from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The fair will continue on Monday, December 10 from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM and Tuesday, December 11 from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. There will be books for all ages and interests. Be sure to bundle up and come on in for some holiday shopping. The class buying the most books will receive an ice cream party and if each homeroom buys at least 35 books, Mr. D has agreed to dress up like a clown.

Capture the Spirit of Christmas

"Capture the Spirit of Christmas" is the theme for Advent. One activity that we will be doing is a Jesse Tree in each classroom. The symbol of the Jesse Tree comes from Isaiah 11: "The royal line of David is like a tree that has been cut down; but as new branches sprout from a stump, so a new king will arise from among David�s descendants." The tree is named after Jesse, the father of the great King David of the Old Testament. Each day during Advent, a symbol will be placed on the Jesse Tree. Monday - Stump & Root (the sprout of a plant, the beginning of life) Tuesday - Dove (reminds us of peace and harmony) Wednesday - Apple (represents original sin) Thursday - Ark (reminds us of Noah and the great flood) Friday - Stars with Camel (represents God�s promise to Abraham) Advent Candles Today at our paraliturgy, each family received an Advent Candle. With this candle is a prayer that can be said each evening before you and your family have dinner during the season of Advent. This is a wonderful way to remember that we wait eagerly for the birth of the Christ Child. Advent ConcertOur annual concert is on Tuesday, December 11 at 7:00 PM in Church. This concert is for students who are in grades K, 2, 4, 6, and 8. Please join us for a wonderful evening of song and praise. New Liturgical Year for the Church The first Sunday in Advent brings some new things for us to notice and experience. First, no more green vestments. We now see violet or purple, worn to remind us that Advent is a time to get ready for Christmas by preparing our hearts, not just our houses. Advent is a season of hope. There is no "Glory to God" said during Advent and perhaps the music will be a little more quiet and peaceful. Many churches will sing "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" during the season of Advent.

Girl Scout Troop #1104 is collecting baby items for the Birthright organization. Birthright is an organization that supports girls and women who are distressed by an unplanned pregnancy. This collection is part of G.S. Troop #1104�s work for the Marian Award. All Saints/All Souls Book of Remembrance

November is the month when we Catholics traditionally remember those who have died. We honor those who have been canonized, and all the faithful departed who are part of the Communion of Saints on November 1, All Saints Day. November 2 is a day to pray for those who have died. As part of our Commemoration here at Seven Holy Founders Catholic School, attached is a sheet each family is invited to complete to be part of our "Remembrance" book. It will remain on display in the front foyer of school through the month of November. These pages will be returned to you. We ask that all "Remembrance" pages be returned by Thursday, November 8. Vianney High School is having a Shoe Drive for those affected by the war in Afghanistan. Those interested may drop off new or gently used shoes from October 8 - 12 between 7:00 AM - 4:40 PM @ Vianney High School. For further information, you may call the high school at 965-4853.

Confirmation for 7th grade students at SHF will be on Friday, April 18 @ 7:30 PM. The celebrant for Confirmation will be Archbishop Burke. Please pray for our Confirmation candidates as they prepare for this special sacrament.

Thanks to all of the school families, parishioners and friends who dined at Incredible Pizza on September 17. Because of your efforts we were sent a check for the amount of $294.64. Thank you for your participation!!!

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat will take place on October 28 at 7:00 PM. People may enter the parking lot at any time to get a space. At 7:00 a whistle will sound and all the parking lots will be closed to cars. Once the lots are closed, the children are free to begin trick or treating. The children walk from car to car until they have covered the lots. We don�t put an age limit on the participants, all we ask is that the kids who participate be in costume and accompanied by either their parent or another adult. When all the fun is over, the lots will be opened and the cars may leave. The whole event is usually over in about an hour. We also tell the parents that if they would like to decorate their cars it adds to the fun of the night. Last year it was very well attended. Bring enough candy! I would guess between 50 to 75 families were there and some had multiple children. If people want to park by friends or neighbors you should arrive early. Pray for nice weather and dress warmly.

School Pictures

School Pictures are coming home today. If you are not satisfied with the pictures, you may have them retaken on Wednesday, October 24. Please send the pictures with your child on that day. Any student who was absent will also have their picture taken this day. The preschool students in the MWF class will have their pictures taken on this day also.

A special "Thank You" to a family who donated $2,600.00 toward the 2007-08 "Bridge the Gap" program at SHF. We thank this family for their generosity!!! Seven Holy Founders Catholic School would like to thank all of our families who help in any way by supporting our school. All Saints Day Preparation

During the month of October, each morning during prayer and announcements, the students will learn about the lives of different saints. Saints are an important part of our Catholic faith.
