First Grade

Welcome!

I would like to welcome you and your child to my class. I'm looking forward to a fun year of growing and learning.

We've just fininshed our first theme test. Everyone passed with flying colors.

Our next theme is Growing and Changing. During this theme, children will recognize how many things trow or change with time, apply the comprehension skills: categoriZing?classifying, draw conclusions and sequence. They will decode and spell words with final consonantsb,f,g, k, l, m, r, s, t. they will also summarize each story.

We've just begun subtraction. We will be working on this for a little while. If you have not made or purchased flash card, now might be a good time to do so. I know they can be purchased at the Dollar store. Your child should begin memorizing simple facts in additon and subtraction from 10.

We continue to work on sentences in Language. We will work on this all year long. Please practice writing simple sentences with your child.

Spelling words for Unit 3 include:

the a and can cat an had man at to of is in it him big sit did

Unit 3 is a review of units 1 and 2. It would be great practice to use these words in the sentences your child is writing.

Our next chapter in Religion will focus on how wonderful and good God is. All creation owes God praise. We praise God with our parish community at Mass.
