Hi, Welcome to third grade! My name is Liz Schaetzel and I will be teaching third grade at Seven Holy Founders this year. Please try and check my website weekly. Here's a list of our special classes and when they are scheduled each week:

Wednesday: Music & Computer

Thursday: Class Mass & PE

Friday: Spanish, Music & PE

Each week, I will post lesson plans, quizzes and tests to be taken during the upcoming week. Third grade students have several workbooks. Please take time and cover each workbook with clear contact paper. Hardback books will need book covers. Please send a healthy morning snack to school each day with

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. In math this week, students wll practice estimating products, explore multiplication with arrarys and multiply two digit numbers. Students should continue to practice multiplication facts daily. Students will take a quiz on Chapter 9 Section A on Friday. Please make sure your child has a dry erase marker. Students will begin solving multiplication problems on whiteboards in class for practice. In reading, students will look at examples of cartoon dialogue and learn how write and punctuate dialogue correctly. Students will define new vocabulary words for our new story, Chicken Sunday. Students will read story orally with expression. Students will practice solving problems and making decisions. Students will practice working with homophones. In science, students will read and discuss Can competition be avoided? and review Lesson 4. On Thursday, students will review Lesson 4 and take a quiz. Students will read and discuss Super Science Magazine. Students will begin Lesson 5 Adaptations for Survival. Students will look at some ways animals have adapted on smartboard. In english, students will identify how to use commas to separate words in a series. Students will review skills learned and take a quiz on Wednesday, covering p. 240-251. Students will identfy and use past tense forms of the verb be and practice working with contractions. In spelling, students will finish up unit 22. The test on unit 22 will be on Tuesday. Students will begin work on unit 23. Students will practice their cursive writing. In religion, students will review reasons why families celebrate. Students will understand that at mass we celebrate the risen Lord. Students will discuss How Catholics Celebrate. Students will learn the order of the Mass and begin planning our class mass which is on February 22nd. Students will review Chapter 10 and complete the chapter review. Students will take a test on Chapter 10 on Monday, February 13th. Students will attend the Becker pep rally on Monday. The Becker Tournament begins on Tuesday.

Science 4th - Students will orally correct worksheet p. 105-106, parent signature is required on worksheet. Students will then review Lesson 6 on smartboard. On Tuesday, students will take a quiz on Lesson 6. Students will then read and discuss Dancing Bees. Students will begin review of Chapter 4. Students will define new vocabulary words as we begin our new lesson, What can you learn from Rocks? and How do you interpret clues in rocks? Students may bring in rocks to share. We will learn about and discuss types of rocks, igneous and sedimentary. Look at examples of rocks and their uses on smartboard.
