Welcome to fifth grade.  My name is Mrs. Kathy Zoeller and I am your child's homeroom teacher.  I will be teaching 5th and 6th grade Math and Science classes.  The homeroom subjects of Religion, English, and Spelling will be taught by Miss Kate Vernell.  I will be teaching in the morning this year and Miss Vernell will be teaching the afternoon classes.   This is my 25th year teaching at SHF and I have enjoyed every year.     Our theme for the year is "Reaching for the Stars."   

 Fifth grade is a transition year.  Students experience many changes--subject matter becomes more difficult and the amount of material covered increases.   Students are expected to take more responsibility for their learning.   Most students have no difficulty adjusting to the schedule, the change of classes, the teachers, and the amount of homework.  However, if your child is struggling, please let me know.  I want fifth grade to be a positive experience for every child.  I encourage all families to register with Fast Direct.  I will be putting  information about upcoming activities and tests on the Fast Direct bulletin board.  I will no longer update this web page on a weekly basis.  Please visit the Fast Direct bulletin board to keep abreast of the many activities we do in fifth.  Sixth grade parents may also check in to see some of the topics we will be studying in 6th grade.  I do NOT post homework on my website.  Homework is recorded in the student assignment books.  I will, however, post the dates of tests in each subject and a short description of what topics we will be studying.
