2007/2008 Events and Programs

Academic

Affton School District is offering a remedial summer school program. This program is for students who live in the Affton School district and is for students that are presently in grades K-8. The program for students in grades K-5 is designed for students who are in need of remediation in reading, math, and language arts. The middle school program (grades 6-8) is designed for students who have failed two or more core subjects. If you are interested in this summer school program, please contact the school office.

CBC High School is sponsoring a Computer Applications course this summer for boys who are currently in 7th grade. If interested, please contact the SHF school office for a brochure.

 

Cor Jesu High School is offering a Summer Enrichment Camp for girls currently in grades 6-8

 

DeSmet High School is sponsoring two summer programs. The Summer Scholars program is for students interested in Science and Computers, with an emphasis on critical thinking skills. They are anticipating two one-week sessions June 2-6 and June 9-13. Cost is $100.00. The second program Summer Prep is a program with an emphasis on Algebra, Creative Writing and Science. This program is from June 9-27 with a cost of $300.00. Both programs are for boys who will be in 8th grade starting in the Fall of 2008. Lindbergh School District is sponsoring a Summer Camp for students who live in that district and are currently in grades K-8. The camp runs from June 2-27 from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM daily. Students may choose classes from a four-week program. If you live in the district and are interested, please contact the SHF school office for a brochure.

 

Mehlville School District - will be conducting a four week Learning Academy for students in grades K-5. Session will run from June 2-26, 2008. Please contact SHF school office for more information.

 

Meramec Community College is again sponsoring its summer College for Kids program. To be eligible for this program, a child in grades K-8 must score in the 95th %ile on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in one of the core areas. If interested in a brochure, please call SHF school office.

 

Notre Dame High School is offering the following enrichment courses this summer: Family and Consumer Science, Journalism, Photography, French, Spanish and Performing Arts. These brochures are also in the school office.

 

St. Louis University High School is sponsoring their summer Upward Bound program. This program, for boys who are currently in 7th grade, is designed for students of average to above average ability who could and should be doing better in school. This program features work in math, reading, grammar, study skills, history and public speaking. It is a four-week summer program with a tuition cost of $495.00. In addition, SLUH is offering Summer Enrichment for English, Math, and Science for boys and girls currently in 7th grade and Summer Enrichment in Science and Reading for boys and girls currently in 6th grade

 

Vianney High School is again sponsoring its Scholars Academy this summer. This program is for boys and girls who will be in the 7th or 8th grade starting in the Fall. The students will explore History, Literature, Science, Math and hands-on activities. The Academy runs from June 16-27 and the cost of the program is $400.00. Arts

Affton High School Drama Department is offering an all day theatre workshop on Saturday, January 12, 2008. The Workshop theme is "Animals in the Jungle" and is open for children ages 4-13. Cost is $10.00 per person. For more information and registration, call 633-0012. Registration deadline is January 9, 2008.

Other

The Vocation Office of the Archdiocese of St. Louis is again sponsoring its Kenrick Glennon Summer Camps for boys who are currently in 5-8 grades. If you are interested in a brochure, please contact the SHF school office.

The Vocation Office is sponsoring Camp Mater Dei, an overnight camp for girls currently in the 5-8 grades. This camp will be held from July 18-20. If you are interested in a brochure, please contact the SHF school office.

Sports

Cor Jesu High School is offering an All Sports Camp (Basketball, Field Hockey, Golf, Soccer and Tennis) for girls currently in grades 6-8 and Summer Volleyball Camp for girls currently in grades 2-8.

Lady Lindbergh Flyers will be sponsoring a basketball camp for girls entering grades 2-9 on the campus of Lindbergh High School. Camp will run July 28-31. If interested, please contact the SHF school office for a brochure.

Lindbergh Hockey Cheerleading tryout clinic dates will be on April 21 and 22 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM in the Multi-purpose Room at Lindbergh High School. If interested in trying out, please contact the SHF school office for more information.

Nerinx Hall High School is offering Summer Sports Camps for girls entering grades 4-8.

Notre Dame High School is sponsoring various sport camps for girls who are currently in 2nd-8th grades. If interested in a brochure, please call or contact the SHF school office.

St. Joseph’s Academy is sponsoring a Field Hockey Camp this summer for girls who will be in the 4th-9th grades starting in the Fall of 2008. If interested, please contact the SHF school office for a brochure.

Saint Louis University is offering its Summer Rec Camp to students ages 6-12. Camp starts the week of June 2 - August 1 from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Campers participate in recreational activities, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips and much more. Please contact the SHF school office for a brochure.

St. Louis University High School will offer a summer Football Camp for boys currently in grades 1-7

St. Louis University High School is hosting its 1st Annual Junior Billiken Soccer Camp, held at their new soccer stadium. Camp is available for boys and girls entering grades 3-8. Hours are from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM daily, beginning the week of June 23. For more information, please contact the SHF school office.

Ursuline Academy is hosting Summer Sports Camps in Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Field Hockey, Soccer, Track & Field, Cheer/Pom, Lacrosse, and Fitness for girls entering grades 3-8

Ongoing Programs

For parents of children prenatal to age three - all Mehlville School District residents with children prenatal to age three are eligible for free participation in the Mehlville Parents as Teachers (PAT) program. Children begin learning even before birth and learn more during the first five years of life than at any other time. PAT is an early learning program that supports parents in their role as the first and most influential teachers of their children. Participating families receive personalized home visits with a certified Parent Educator, periodic develop-mental screenings, newsletters and opportunities to attend parent/child work-shops and group meetings on parenting issues.
